Types of financial advice we offer…

Life Cover

Life Insurance is a key component of financial planning because it provides financial security for your family in the event of your untimely death.

None of us like to contemplate the worst, however ensuring financial certainty for your family after you’re gone is one of the most important financial decisions you will ever make.

You should consider life cover if:

  • you have dependents
  • you are thinking of taking a mortgage
  • are over 40 and realise you are not as fit as you used to be
  • are considering succession/inheritance tax planning.

There are three different types of life cover. Your Sheridan Insurances broker can help you determine which cover is right for your situation.

  1. Decreasing Life Cover (or Mortgage Protection): this provides cover for your mortgage balance. The amount you pay for the cover decreases as the capital on your mortgage is repaid.
  2. Whole Of Life Cover: this provides cover for the rest of your life. The younger you are when you take out this policy, the less you will pay for the premium.
  3. Term Assurance: this cover provides protection for your chosen level of cover for a specific period of time. When that time comes to an end, your policy expires.

Serious Illness Cover

Serious Illness Cover provides you with a lump sum payment should you be diagnosed with an illness that is listed on your insurance policy document. Common illnesses such as back injuries or angina are typically not covered. Those illnesses that are usually covered include:

  • some types of cancer
  • stroke
  • heart attack
  • multiple sclerosis
  • motor neuron disease
  • major organ transplantation
  • a benign brain tumour
  • severe burns
  • blindness

If you suffered with a serious illness and could no longer work, how would you manage to pay your bills?

An illness can have a devastating impact on your life and your family. It can create a number of financial challenges, from the cost of medicines and certain treatments to travel and parking. These can mount up quickly and place added pressure when you may already have a mortgage, car payment and other living expenses to take care of. Serious illness benefit puts your mind at ease and allows you to focus on your recovery plan.

Financial Advice FAQs

We want to make sure you know exactly what financial advice from Sheridan Insurances covers.
Take a look at our FAQs or talk to one of our qualfied financial advisors.

What is a financial plan?
Your qualified financial planner will work with you to draft a financial plan that takes into account your current situation and where you would like to be in the long term, such as the type of retirement you would like to have. The plan will detail strategies to help you achieve your financial goals and also include strategies for financial protection in the event you are unable to work, fall ill or die prematurely. A financial plan should be tailored specifically to suit the individual and their personal situation, the degree of risk they are comfortable with, and what they expect in the future.
What does a financial plan consist of?
It consists of your vision for your future and setting out the actions required to achieve these long term financial goals.

The first step is to calculate your net worth and spending habits. Your financial goals are explored next, followed by the development of tax-efficient savings strategies to help achieve them. A budget will typically be developed to cover your living expenses while other systems will be put in place for you to contribute regularly to your savings and investments portfolio each month.
